Canada Election Results 2006 - Avoiding the Publication Ban
Canadian election is today. You cannot get the results on the internet until everyone has finished voting (7pm EST), however people in Newfoundland finish voting 3 hours before.
6160 khz, shortwave, relays Newfoundland news and is covering the election. Unfortunately they have serious interference from 6165khz, so you need a good radio and to listen to it in LSB mode (ECSS - enhanced carrier selective sideband) or perhaps in AM with a really selective bandwidth with tight curves.
So far I've heard the Liberals are ahead in 4 seats, Conservatives in 2, and 1 didn't have results. But that's about all I can make out on my Sangean 909a due to 6165's interference.
Alternatively, you can try various online radio stations. CHMR was online at 7:05pm, from Memorial University, however it's a student station and might not provide much news.
Once Ontario/Quebec polling closes it should be significantly easier to get results, as there is one shortwave from Ontario (6070 I believe?) and I can get 690 and 860 in French, and less strong signal from 740 CBC in English. Fortunately my french is good.
If you don't have a radio, you can try using an online radio. Search for online shortwave radio.
I'm surprised that I haven't found any internet site that is explicitly violating the publication ban. Some expatriate with a friend in Newfoundland ought to call their friend by phone and publish the website from outside of Canada...
