FindRadio.us - Station Call Letters Support
Submitted by akreider on Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:01.I added station call letters to findradio.us.
So you can look up a station using a link like:
WGCS
http://www.findradio.us/displayradio.php?gsCallsign=WGCS
I was previously using some IDs that were meaningless to do this. The IDs still work, but call letters are more user-friendly.
This makes it easier for other sites to link to my info.

Journal of Aesthetics and Protest
Submitted by akreider on Wed, 06/18/2008 - 01:04.Interesting looking activist journal. Hard to read though. Because of the layout and disorganization of the contents I didn't read any of the articles. Whereas if they'd just done regular black text on white background, and used regular fonts, I'd probably have read at least 3 articles.

An Atlas of Radical Cartography
Submitted by akreider on Wed, 06/18/2008 - 00:56.A book that I recently noticed. Looks interesting. Unfortunately it looks a little on the theoretical/academic side, which has its place, but I'd really love to see more popular education oriented mapping projects.

Disorientation Guides
Submitted by akreider on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 18:29.The summer is an excellent time to write a
Disorientation Guide (our archive).
Since the Sixties, possibly starting at Berkeley, student activists have been publishing Disorientation Guides - generally in the fall - to let incoming students know how they can get involved in movements for progressive social change at their school.
You can distribute the guides to every new student, or in smaller numbers.
Write a People's History of Student Activism for Your School
Submitted by akreider on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 18:18.As the school years winds down for most students, now is an opportune time to think BIG.
You should consider writing a history of student activism at your school!
CampusActivism.org Update
Submitted by akreider on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 01:04.You haven't seen any serious changes to CampusActivism.org/ActivismNetwork.org as I've been focussing on creating a customized version of this software that would serve as a networking resource for activists fighting power plants.
The Action Center (of Philadelphia, PA) is creating a website that will map all the power plants in the US, as well as connect activists who are opposing them.
We're working with a lot of government data. Developing some fancy searches. Doing some cool things with mapping. So it's a lot of work. There should be a basic version online by June 1.
Notre Dame Progressive Student Alliance - Collects 2500-3000 Signatures for Non-Discrimination
Submitted by akreider on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 00:58.Ten years after I worked on this campaign, the group I started is trying once again to include "sexual orientation" in the University of Notre Dame's non-discrimination clause.
They're off to an excellent start!

Students from the Progressive Student Alliance (PSA) will deliver a petition to the Office of the President Wednesday to add sexual orientation to Notre Dame's Non-Discrimination, PSA member Mike McCann said.
Obama Supports the $500 Billion Military Industrial Complex
Submitted by akreider on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 23:26.In 2007, Clinton raised $97 million for the primaries and Obama raised $95.6 million (http://www.capitaleye.org/inside.asp?ID=332). Obama did get more small donations (as did Ron Paul), but he is NOT doing well in this race because of his message. In fact Clinton is getting more votes per dollar spent than Obama (probably because she has a major name recognition advantage).
Obama is doing well because he has an ok message and a hundred million dollars of money that comes from the rich (and the guillible non-rich).
